You Clap: I Run Performance. 2008.

My studio at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD) was perfectly white and clear of everything.  Performance starts at 7.30am.  People have a chance to come before they have to start work, go to class or teach.  They have to make effort to do this.  I came in, put 12 bottles of water, my inhaler, 2 energy bars and an energy drinks in the corner.  I stretched thoroughly and waited in my studio.  First person came around 8am.  She was timid, not really standing in the frontal position directly in front of me and my studio.  She clapped a couple times, and walked away.  People came and went.  There was not a constant stream of people.  While waiting I would pick at the wood part of my studio, walk around, all from boredom, or just stand still looking forward ready to perform for the clapper.   One person brought my a bagel and cream cheese and an energy drink.  People tried different ways of clapping.  One person clapped on his ass.  Another called a friend and she clapped over the speakerphone. People talked to me and asked me questions, but I did not talk during the performance. I ended the performance around 9pm.
